In this tutorial we will walk you through creating an FTP account in cPanel and configuring your FTP client.
By creating an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) account you will be able to use an FTP Client to connect directly to your web server allowing you to easily upload, download and manage your files and directories.
To create a FTP account, follow these steps:
- Log in to your cPanel account.
Follow our guide to learn how to access your cPanel account. - Under the Files section, select “FTP Accounts”.
Tip: Use the quick search bar at the top of your cPanel account for speedy navigation. - Fill in the account details for your FTP account, then select “Create FTP Account”.
Note: The “Directory” field sets the directory that the FTP account will have access to, along with all its subdirectories. - Congratulations! You have successfully created an FTP account.
You will use these account details to configure your FTP client (see below for instructions).

Once you have installed an FTP Client, you can either enter the FTP settings manually by copying them from the Manual Settings section.
Alternatively, you can download and open the “FTP Configuration File” (from the Configuration Files section) with your FTP Client (not available for FileZilla).
Note: For further assistance, select the “Instructions (new window)” link.
Tip: If you are using a CDN then you might need to add your FTP address as an A record. - Congratulations! You have now configured your FTP client.
