Securing Your WordPress Website with SSL

In this tutorial we will walk you through securing your WordPress website with SSL.

An SSL certificate lets your visitors know that your website is secure and safe to visit.
Search engines rank websites that have an SSL certificate higher than those that do not.
At MCloud9, we offer all of our customers a free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate to secure their website.

Once you have installed your free SSL certificate we recommend using a very popular WordPress plugin to handle setting up your SSL integration for you.

To secure your WordPress website with SSL, follow these steps:

  1. Install your SSL certificate in a few easy steps by following this tutorial on activating your Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate.

  2. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard, then install the Really Simple SSL plugin.

  3. Make a backup of your WordPress website before using the plugin.

  4. Go to your WordPress “Plugins” and activate the Really Simple SSL plugin.

  5. You should see a notice at the top asking you to enable SSL, select it and follow the prompts.

Note: Once the SSL has been enabled you will need to log back in to your WordPress admin dashboard.

  6. Congratulations! You have successfully secured your WordPress website with SSL!
You should now see the SSL lock icon next to your URL when visiting your website.
