Installing an Authentication App on Your Mobile Device

In this tutorial we will walk you through how you can install and use an authentication app on your mobile device.

An authentication app allows you to make use of two-factor authentication (2FA) on various platforms, including your MCloud9 Client Portal and cPanel account.

For this tutorial we will be using the Google Authenticator app as our preferred authenticator.

To install the Google Authenticator app, follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device through the app store using one of the links below.
    Install Google Authenticator on Android
    Install Google Authenticator on iOS

  2. Congratulations! You have successfully installed two-factor authentication.
You can now use the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device to add and use two-factor authentication.

To use the Google Authenticator app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device.

  2. Select the plus icon ( + ) and choose either “Scan a QR code” or “Enter a Setup key”.

    1. If you select “Scan a QR” code, this will open your camera so that you may scan the QR code - make sure to position the QR code inside the square.

    2. If you select “Enter a Setup key”, enter the appropriate key. You can choose any Account name and keep the Type of key as “Time based” then choose “Add”.

  3. Your account’s 6-digit two-factor authentication key will now be displayed in the Google Authenticator app.
Whenever you need to enter your two-factor authentication key you will be able to access it using your Google Authenticator app.

Note: The random 6-digit authentication key is constantly refreshed after a short period of time

  4. Congratulations! You have successfully added your account to Google Authenticator and know how to use it.
